D&I Ambassador Programme 2024/25
Who are D&I Ambassadors?
D&I Ambassadors encourage and support diversity and inclusion initiatives of the University. They work towards heightening D&I awareness of CU community, through the promotion of anti-discrimination and diversity on campus and in the community.
D&I Ambassadors are our most involved students and become part of a close-knit, diverse and vibrant group.

I have learned the importance of active listening and non-judgemental listening. Through the chatting sessions and practice, I have greater confidence to engage people from different background into meaningful conversations. I am excited to apply the skills I have learned in the upcoming CU Chat!

The workshop taught me valuable communication and listening skills. It emphasized the importance of empathizing with others and understanding their situations. Sharing our happy moments with the group was meaningful, allowing us to connect and celebrate joy together. It was a truly enriching experience.

Visiting the Kowloon Mosque and an Indian temple was a valuable experience. The tour guides provided detailed explanations, deepening our understanding of Indian customs and practices. The Indian dance activity was particularly surprising, and the tour allowed me to engage with and appreciate the unique aspects of Indian culture. This experience will certainly help me connect better with my Indian friends in the future!

The wheelchair workshop was an eye-opening experience that deeply enhanced my understanding of the challenges faced by individuals using wheelchairs. Listening to their personal stories and struggles with accessibility in Hong Kong was both humbling and enlightening. The indoor activities, such as picking up objects, wearing a jacket (especially zipping with limited hand function), and controlling a computer through slight head movements, highlighted the daily obstacles they navigate with resilience. The outdoor experience of both sitting in and pushing a wheelchair gave me a completely new perspective on campus pathways and the importance of truly accessible facilities. It reinforced the need for greater awareness and improvements in public infrastructure to ensure inclusivity for everyone.

This programme means a lot to me because it’s rare to have opportunities to meet people from diverse backgrounds, let alone hear their stories or step into their shoes. Enrolling in these programmes has allowed me to view life through different lenses, such as those of people who use wheelchairs. For example, a slope I once conquered in three seconds became a struggle to navigate, requiring assistance from others. It taught me that many things can’t be fully understood until you experience them firsthand or live the life of someone with different needs. That’s why I truly appreciate these opportunities and the chance to be enlightened by diverse perspectives through the activities organized by DIO!
